I reckon I've got the gist of the Christian Gospel in SIX words...
Love God
Love Others
Go Share
Okay, so perhaps I'm being a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I do suspect that there are many occasions when we overcomplicate things.
It's great that we're created as thinking beings but do we overthink in our own strength rather than relying on the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts?
What's brought this on?
Well, I'm reading a book that explores Christianity in our modern age and, whilst I agree that God's word is unchangeable and timeless, I do believe that the Holy Spirit is forever revealing more of God and His will, to us, in our context by continuously inspiring our understanding of God's word.
How else can we share the love, hope and grace of God in ways that are real?
I'm not advocating compliance with all the values of our messed-up world or a watering down of the Bible BUT an open-minded reliance on God, the Holy Spirit... new ways of being church don't have to be seen as scarey or less than holy, rather a REAL reflection of a loving God who is interested in the everyday stuff of life... even in a tiny corner of a small island!
