I love images! I enjoy art (even though I don't necessarily understand it all) but I particularly love photographs.
The thing is, today I find myself confronted by images I'm not sure I WANT to see... those of the former Libyan Dictator, Muammar Gadaafi, lying dead with a bullet hole in his temple. Is there a newspaper or news programme in the land not showing these brutal images?
I'm not especially squeamish about seeing a dead body, I've seen several. What concerns me is the manner in which this display of 'Justice' was carried out.
I do NOT believe that this man was innocent, or a victim. He was, without doubt, a cold-blooded person who was capable of unimaginable atrocity; someone who caused untold pain and suffering to so many.
There are many, I'm sure, who are rejoicing in his demise and would deem it 'only fair' that he meet his end in this way... kind of 'good riddance to bad rubbish.'
Will this be the end of troubles in Libya? The end of Taliban (and other terrorist groups) activity? I'd love to believe so, but I'm a realist and suspect not.
Besides, I love God and this is His take on such things...
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. [Romans 12]
So, do we just pardon and forgive such atrocities?
No, but peace will never prevail when we fight atrocity with atrocity... justice is very different from revenge!
